United Way of Greater Houston

In early January 2020, United Way of Greater Houston announced a late 2019 gift from Rich and Nancy Kinder to support the United Way’s ongoing work in the Greater Houston community. The grant created long-lasting, systemic change to help our most vulnerable neighbors achieve financial stability and a sustainable quality of life.

The Kinders’ 2019 donation to United Way of Greater Houston marked the establishment of its new “Luminary” leadership giving level. The grant was to be invested in the community through services such as basic needs assistance, job training and financial coaching, early childhood education, youth development services, and affordable health care.

2024 marked the sixth consecutive year for the Foundation to give a $1 million campaign gift at the Luminary Giving level.

Information on page is current as of August 22, 2025. Lifetime gift total of $10,279,096 may include other gifts not mentioned above.
