The Lawson Academy

The Lawson Academy fosters a student-centered learning environment modeling high expectations for academic achievement and provides an atmosphere of mutual respect for students, staff, family, and community members.

The Academy, conceived by Mrs. Audrey Lawson, opened in 2002. In 2016, the Kinder Foundation made a catalyst commitment to the William A. Lawson Institute for Peace & Prosperity: a $1 million matching grant for the new Lawson Academy, the largest single donation to the capital campaign for the construction of The Lawson Academy. The school opened in 2017.

In May 2019, thanks to support from parents, students, the Kinder Foundation, Houston Endowment and Powell Foundation, the Lawson Academy dedicated a SPARK Park on its campus, increasing park equity in the Third Ward.
